You can apply for a registration certificate in person or online (see links).

The registration certificate serves as proof of your current residential address and, if applicable, other personal data. You can choose between a simple and an extended registration certificate.

Please find out from the office you are applying to which type of registration certificate (simple or extended) is required and which data must be included.

Prerequisites

You must be currently or previously registered in Jena.

Types and scope of registration certificates

Simple registration certificate extended registration certificate

The simple registration certificate contains the following data :

  • Surname
  • First names, indicating the common first name
  • Doctorate
  • date of birth
  • current addresses, marked according to main and secondary residence

The extended registration certificate contains the following data:

  • Surname
  • First names, indicating the common first name
  • Doctorate
  • date of birth
  • current addresses, marked according to main and secondary residence

additionally selectable on request

  • Former names
  • Religious name, stage name
  • Place of birth, state of birth if applicable
  • gender
  • current nationality
  • Affiliation to a religious organization under public law
  • Previous addresses, marked according to main and secondary residence
  • Date of moving in, date of moving out
  • Spouse or life partner
  • underage children
  • Legal representative
  • Personal documents
  • Proof of life or the fact that a date of death is not stored
  • Marital status, for married persons or civil partners additionally the date and place of marriage or the establishment of the civil partnership
  • the identification number according to § 139b of the tax code

Persons currently registered in Jena

For persons currently registered in Jena, the online services for the simple registration certificate and the extended registration certificate are available for the application. The payment options GiroPay (incl. Paydirekt) and credit card are offered. The registration certificate will be sent to your address by post. An application by e-mail is not offered for persons registered in Jena; alternatively, you must make an appointment at the Citizens' Service.

Persons who have already moved away

Persons who have already moved can submit an informal application by e-mail to bs-antrag@jena.de with a copy of their identity document and, if necessary, proof of their current address (e.g. abroad or in the case of a passport). Your identity and address must be verifiable. You will receive a request for payment (advance payment) and once the fee has been transferred, the registration certificate will be sent to your address by post.

Document issue - without an appointment

Documents that have already been applied for and are now ready for collection (passport, ID card and eID card as well as documents from the driving license authority) can be collected from reception during opening hours without an appointment.

Other requests with an appointment

An appointment must be booked for personal visits for other matters. This can be done online or by telephone.

Please note

On 23.12.2025 the area is only open until 16:00. The area is closed on 02.01.2026. The department cannot be reached by telephone from 4 p.m. on 23.12.2025 and all day on 02.01.2026.
