Apply for a tax identification number (tax ID)

The tax ID is issued automatically by the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt) at birth or when a residence is registered with a registration office in Germany for the first time. The tax ID is valid for the person's entire life. You will receive your tax ID by post from the BZSt.

In this case, you have the option of requesting that it be sent to you again online on the website of the Federal Central Tax Office. Alternatively, you can always find your tax identification number in your income tax assessment notice or on your income tax statement.
