Report Changes to Vehicle Owner Information and Technical Modifications

If you have made technical modifications to your vehicle, these must be recorded.

Similarly, any changes to your personal information or the information of the company that owns the vehicle—such as a name change or a move within Jena—mustbe documented in the vehicle registration documents. You can also apply onlineto update your address only .

When must changes to vehicle information be reported?

Changes to the vehicle owner’s information

There is a general obligation to ensure that the vehicle owner’s personal information is entered in the vehicle registry and in the vehicle documents. If there is a change in name or address, this must be reported (Section 13(1) FZV).

Changes to Technical Data

If technical modifications have been made to your vehicle, these must generally be recorded in the vehicle registry and the vehicle documents. This requirement generally applies unless the manufacturer’s documentation states otherwise. These notes can be found in the manufacturer’s general operating permit in conjunction with an expert report pursuant to §19(3) StVZO.

Documents Required to Change Vehicle Information

Apply to Change the Owner’s Information
  • Vehicle Registration Certificate or Certificate of Registration, Part I
  • Vehicle title or Certificate of Registration, Part II – If only the address is being changed, this document is generally not required. Unless you still have aVehicle Title issuedbefore October 1, 2005; in thatcase, it must be exchanged for a Certificate of Registration, Part II, as part of the change.
  • Certificate of a valid general inspection (e.g., TÜV) (original)
  • General documents regarding the vehicle owner (see Downloads) showing the respective changes
  • If applicable, a declaration regarding the use of the business address for the registration of vehicles under sole proprietorships and self-employed individuals in the event of a change of business address (see Downloads)
  • If applicable, the form for vehicle registration under a civil law partnership (GbR and eGbR) (see Downloads)

  • Vehicle Registration Certificate or Registration Certificate Part I
  • Vehicle title or Certificate of Registration Part II—If avehicle title issuedbefore October 1, 2005,is available, it must be exchanged for a Certificate of Registration Part II.
  • General operating permit for the add-on part / expert report / manufacturer’s certificate (documents documenting the modification, correction, or installation approval)
  • Certificate of valid general inspection (original)
  • General documentation regarding the vehicle owner (see Downloads)

Document Pickup - No Appointment Required

You can pick up documents that have already been requested and are now ready for pickup (passports, ID cards, eID cards, and documents from the driver’s license office) at the front desk during business hours without an appointment.

The registration authority uses special adhesive seals with specific security features for vehicle documents. This increases the total fees by €0.30 per adhesive seal used.
