Declaration of leaving the church
Any person who has reached the age of 14 can declare their withdrawal from the church. Children aged 14 and over do not need the consent of their legal representative.
Details
Withdrawal from the church must be declared to the registry office of your main place of residence. The Jena registry office can therefore only accept your declaration of withdrawal from the church if you have your main place of residence in Jena. You can only declare your withdrawal from the church in person. It is not possible to declare your resignation through an authorized representative.
Withdrawal from the church can be declared verbally. To do so, you must appear in person at the Jena registry office. Your withdrawal from the church will be recorded in minutes and signed by you. Leaving the church takes effect on the day on which the declaration is made.
The declaration of withdrawal from the church cannot be submitted digitally (e.g. by e-mail).
A declaration to a notary only becomes legally binding when it is received by the registry office responsible for the declaration.

- Identity card or passport (if the passport is presented, an extended registration certificate is also required)
- Birth certificate or, if married or living in a registered civil partnership, marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate

An administrative fee of €30 is charged for the declaration of resignation and the notification of the offices/authorities concerned (registration office, religious community, tax office), which is due immediately upon submission of the declaration.
If the declaration is submitted before a Norar, a fee of €30.00 will also be charged for the subsequent processing at the registry office.
