Election of honorary judges
Election of honorary judges at the Gera Administrative Court - term of office 2025-2030
The honorary judges for the administrative courts are elected every five years. The next election will take place in 2025. In preparation for the election, the City of Jena is calling on interested parties to apply for the honorary office.
You can express your interest using the form available here at the Legal Department of the City of Jena.
Details
New honorary judges are being sought for the Gera Administrative Court for a term of office of 5 years. Re-election is permitted.
The City of Jena must draw up a list of candidates for this purpose. In order to be included in the list, the approval of two thirds of the members of the city council present is required. A total of 20 people are sought.
The list of nominees is submitted to the Gera Administrative Court as the competent court. The actual election takes place there. The election committee appointed at the Administrative Court of Gera selects the required number of candidates from the lists of candidates of the districts and independent cities belonging to the court district.
Honorary administrative judges participate in the oral proceedings and in reaching a verdict with the same rights as full-time judges. The responsible office requires a high degree of impartiality, independence, but also mental and - due to the strenuous sitting duties - physical fitness.

- at least 25 years of age at the beginning of the term of office
- Resident in Jena at the time of inclusion in the list of candidates
