Establishment of paternity / acknowledgement of paternity

Recognition of paternity is a certification that is necessary if the parents of a child are not married in order to legally recognize the father and transfer rights and obligations to him. It can take place before or after the birth.

Please note: Due to a number of special features in establishing/verifying the identity of parents of foreign origin, the acknowledgment of paternity is certified exclusively at the registry office of the city of Jena.

• Valid identity cards or passports of both parents
• if recognized before the birth: mother's passport.
• if recognized after the birth: birth certificate of the child
• Original birth certificates of both parents

There are no processing costs.
