Excavation permit for a road

Execution

All excavation work in or directly on the public road area may only be carried out by specialist companies, as the generally recognized rules of construction and technology must be observed, especially for backfilling, compaction and sealing.

Private excavations

Private excavations to dry masonry, work on house drainage, renovation of property walls or erection of structures directly on the property boundary, etc. are special uses and therefore subject to charges.

Impairment of traffic

Very importantly, if vehicle or pedestrian traffic is impaired by special uses or excavations, an application must be submitted to the traffic organization / road traffic authority for an order for traffic regulation measures (-> Downloads).

Application

A written 'Application for an excavation permit' must be submitted to Kommunalservice Jena/Straßenverwaltung in good time (usually 14 days in advance).

Concession agreements generally apply to work in connection with the laying, renewal or repair of public supply and disposal lines. Depending on the scope, a general approval procedure usually has to be carried out first and then an excavation permit has to be applied for.
