Fishing Course / Fishing Exam / Fishing License
Fishing licenses can be obtained with a validity period of 1, 5, or 10 years, or for life. There are also youth fishing licenses (for ages 8 to 14) and quarterly fishing licenses.
The fishing exam can be taken starting at age 10. Registration is now open for all courses.

Details
Youth Fishing License
The youth fishing license can be obtained for a period of validity from age 8 through age 14.
Annual Fishing License
The fishing license can be obtained with a validity period of one, five, or ten years. The fishing license with unlimited validity is issued for life. These fishing licenses can only be issued upon presentation of proof of having passed a state fishing exam.
Quarterly fishing license
Without passing the fishing exam, only a quarterly fishing license with various restrictions can be purchased. The quarterly fishing license is not accepted by all fishing authorities.

Online Course Participants—Fishing Exam as Needed
Participants in online courses offered by the Jena Fishing School, Fishing-King, Beute-Fieber, Anglerschmiede, or other fishing courses are welcome to register for one of the exams listed below—you may be placed on the waiting list if necessary.
Jena Fishing School—Fall Course 2026—Exam January 2027
The 2026 fall course takes place on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

- Friday, November 6, 2026; Saturday, November 7, 2026; Sunday, November 8, 2026; and
- Friday, November 13, 2026; Saturday, November 14, 2026; and
- Friday, November 27, 2026
- Repeat session on January 8, 2027
- January 14, 2027—Exam scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
Fishing exam as needed
The dates for the spring fishing course have not yet been announced—nor have the dates for the other fishing exams in 2027.

- Passport photo for first-time issuance

- Proof of the minor’s identity (if applicable; e.g., birth certificate, child’s passport)
- Fishing license for renewal
The quarterly fishing license is issued without a passport photo or exam certificate.
The youth fishing license is issued without an exam certificate.
