Issue of certificates - existing civil status registers

Certificates from existing civil status registers can also be requested in writing, by post, e-mail or online (including online payment).

Please note

Due to the increasing number of applications and notarizations, there are currently considerable delays and longer processing times at the Jena registry office.

Maintenance work online services 24.02. - 27.02.2026

In the period 24.02.2026 from 6 p.m. up to and including 27.02.2026, maintenance work will be carried out on the online services. The online services cannot be used during this period.

The Jena registry office keeps the following registers for its area of responsibility:

  • Register of births (110 years)
  • Marriage register and civil partnership register (80 years)
  • Death register (30 years)

The church may be able to provide information on events up to the year 1876. Please contact your local church for this.

You can request certified copies of registers that lie between the above-mentioned periods from the Jena City and Administration Archive.

The Jena registry office issues certificates from the civil registers of the following dissolved registry offices:

  • Ammerbach
  • Burgau
  • Cospeda
  • Isserstedt
  • Jenaprießnitz
  • Kunitz
  • Lichtenhain
  • Lobeda
  • Maua
  • Fourteen Saints
  • Wenigenjena
  • Zwätzen

We would like to process your request for the issue of certificates as quickly as possible. With this in mind, we would be very grateful if you would refrain from making further inquiries about the processing status. This will enable us to process your request as quickly as possible.

Civil status certificates can be issued and handed over in person during office hours, by prior appointment. Certificates are issued to the person concerned, their parents or relatives in the direct line. Other persons will only receive certificates on presentation of a corresponding power of attorney. We ask anyone who is able to attend the registry office in person or who can have an authorized person do this for them to make an appointment to pay for and receive the civil status documents directly on site.
