Issuing of certificates – existing civil status registers

The Jena Registry Office maintains the following registers for its area of jurisdiction:

• Births register (110 years)
• Marriage and civil partnership register (80 years)
• Death register (30 years)

Information on events dating back to 1876 or earlier may, in some circumstances, be provided by the church. Please contact your local church for this.

You can request certified copies of register entries falling within the periods mentioned above from the Jena City and Administrative Archive.

The Jena Registry Office issues certificates from the civil status registers of the following disbanded registry offices:

• Ammerbach
• Burgau
• Cospeda
• Isserstedt
• Jenaprießnitz
• Kunitz
• Lichtenhain
• Lobeda
• Maua
• Vierzehnheiligen
• Wenigenjena
• Zwätzen

We would like to process your request for the issue of certificates as quickly as possible. It would therefore be very helpful if you could refrain from making further enquiries regarding the status of your request. This will enable us to process your request as quickly as possible.

Civil status certificates can be issued and collected in person during office hours, subject to a prior appointment. Certificates are issued to the person concerned, their parents or direct relatives. Other persons may only collect certificates upon presentation of a valid power of attorney. We ask anyone who is able to visit the registry office in person, or whose authorised representative can do so on their behalf, to make an appointment so that they can pay for and collect the civil status documents directly at the office.
