Der Fachdienst Gesundheit stellt für die Beförderung von Leichen über die Grenzen Deutschlands Internationale Leichenpässe aus, sofern der oder die Betroffene in Jena verstorben ist.

An International Mortuary Passport is required if a corpse is to be transported beyond Germany's borders and passes through or has as its destination one of the following countries:

  • Egypt
  • Belgium
  • Chile
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Italy
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Mexico
  • Netherlands
  • Austria
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Switzerland
  • Slovakia
  • Czech Republic
  • Turkey

The corpse is to be placed in a coffin in accordance with the regulations of the International Convention on the Transport of Corpses.

The Health Department issues passports only for deaths that have occurred in Jena, and only after these have been certified by the civil registry office. The issuing takes about 30 minutes.
