Requesting information from the population register

Bürgerservice Jena can only provide information on persons currently and previously registered in Jena. The request for information is subject to a fee regardless of the result.

There are two types of information from the register of residents - simple and extended information from the register of residents - you can find out the differences under -> Details.

Apply online for simple information from the population register and receive information immediately

You have the option of submitting an application for simple information on the population register online and receiving an answer immediately.

Request extended information from the population register in writing

If a legitimate interest can be substantiated, extended information can be provided about a specific person. This can be applied for informally in writing at the Citizens' Service with a corresponding justification.

To apply for simple information from the population register, you will need the surname and first name(s) of the person you are looking for. In addition, the date of birth and gender or the last known registration address in Jena.

The requested person must be currently or previously registered in Jena.

Notes

The request for information is subject to a fee regardless of the result. Unsuccessful requests or requests that confirm the data you already have are also subject to a fee.

The provision of simple civil register information may not be used for address trading and/or advertising purposes.

If simple population register information is requested for other commercial reasons, these must be stated and the person or body making the request is obliged to use the response only once and only for the requested purpose. The data must then be deleted. According to § 47 BMG, any further use of the information provided is not permitted and prohibited.

It is illegal to use simple information from the population register for commercial purposes without having stated this when submitting the application and to use it for purposes other than those stated. A violation of the purpose limitation requirement is punished in accordance with Art. 83 para. 5 letter a in conjunction with Art. 5 para. 1 letter b of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The person to whom information was provided has the right to request the data of the recipient of the information and the information from the registration authority.

Types and scope of information from the population register

Simple information from the population register

Simple information from the population register contains the following data on the person requested(online request):

  1. Surname,
  2. First names with the common first name indicated,
  3. Doctoral degree and
  4. current addresses and,
  5. if the person is deceased, this fact.
Extended civil register information

The extended civil register information contains the following data on the person in question (written request):

  1. Former names,
  2. Date and place of birth and, if born abroad, the country of birth,
  3. Marital status, limited to whether or not married or in a civil partnership,
  4. current nationalities,
  5. previous addresses,
  6. date of moving in and date of moving out,
  7. Surname and first names and address of the legal representative,
  8. surname and first names and address of the spouse or civil partner, and
  9. date and place of death and, in the event of death abroad, the country.

Document Pickup - No Appointment Required

You can pick up documents that you have already applied for and are now ready for pickup (passports, ID cards, eID cards, and documents from the driver’s license office) at the front desk during business hours without an appointment.
