Digital passport photos for citizen service and immigration office

Digital passport photos are currently only required in the Citizens' Service and Foreigners' Registration Office.

The City of Jena offers digital photographs for identity cards and passports in the Citizens' Service and residence permits and travel documents for foreigners living in Jena in the Foreigners' Registration Office. These passport photos are taken on site as part of your application.

Alternatively, these passport photos can be taken in advance by certified photo service providers, see https://www.e-passfoto.de or by the certified drugstore chain.

Digital passport photo challenge for children up to the age of 6

To ensure that all biometric requirements for passport photos are met, it is necessary for the person being photographed to sit still while the photo is being taken.

Our experience has shown that it is sometimes difficult to take suitable photos of babies and small children on the machines at the Citizens' Service, as younger children are often unable to sit still on their own. It is generally not possible to take digital passport photos of babies and toddlers up to the age of 6 at the Immigration Office.

Recommendation for children up to 6 years for both areas

Have the digital passport photos for children up to 6 years of age taken by certified photo service providers, see www.e-passfoto.de, or at the certified drugstore chain in advance of your appointment at the Citizens' Service or the Foreigners' Registration Office.

Children from the age of 6

Photos from the age of six can be taken at the Citizens' Service or the Foreigners' Registration Office or at any certified photo service provider, see www.e-passfoto.de, as well as at the certified drugstore chain.

Costs for digital passport photos at the authority

Taking digital passport photos at the authorities currently costs €6.00 in both service areas.

Inadmissible passport photos

Self-made photos, photos from photo booths or passport photos from photo apps and printed passport photos are no longer permitted in the Citizens' Service and the Foreigners' Registration Office since 01.05.2025.
