120 € training assistance for you

Students and trainees who register their main residence in Jena for the first time will receive up to €120 as a welcome bonus. With this bonus, the city wants to make your start in Jena easier and at the same time show that a main residence in Jena is worthwhile - for you through financial support and for the city through your active membership of the community.

The application must be submitted to the Studierendenwerk Thüringen(INFOtake Jena). This applies to students and trainees.

Registering your main residence online

You can register your main residence in Jena in person at the Bürgerservice or online.

On the basis of a resolution of the City Council of the City of Jena, students and trainees (incl. school education) can apply for payment of a main residence premium. The amount of the main residence bonus is € 60 for a period of one semester and is granted for a maximum of two semesters (maximum total of € 120).

Who can receive the bonus?

The bonus is aimed at anyone who moves to Jena to study or train and registers their main or sole place of residence with the City of Jena's Citizens' Service or online and has not yet reached the age of 30.

What is a main residence?

Anyone moving to a new city must register their place of residence with the Residents' Registration Office (Bürgerservice). You can choose between a main residence and a secondary residence. A secondary residence is generally only used if you rarely live in the apartment. However, if you are moving to a new city to study, train or work, you should register your main residence there, as this allows you to visit the local authorities more quickly and has other advantages in everyday life.

Are there any additional costs for re-registering?

No. The re-registration is always free of charge for you, whether online or on site at the Citizens' Service.

Online re-registration

What do I need for online re-registration?
  • a valid ID card with activated online ID function (eID) and PIN or an eID card for EU citizens
  • an NFC-enabled smartphone or a card reader
  • the AusweisApp at least version 2.3.0
  • the landlord's confirmation of residence from your landlord
How do I update my address on official documents (e.g. ID card) when re-registering online?

Once you have received confirmation from the registration office by email, you can retrieve the registration certificate online. The address will then be updated in the chip on your ID card. The new address sticker will be sent to you by post and you can affix it to your documents. This completes the change of address.

How quickly will the money be paid out?

The registration office will usually check your online re-registration within 3 working days, after which you will receive an e-mail. After submitting your complete application form to INFOtake, it will be checked quickly so that the payment can be made quickly. Please note that the processing time may vary depending on how busy it is.

Does the main residence premium affect my BAföG?

No, registering your main residence in Jena does not change the amount of your BAföG.

Does the main residence have other advantages?

Yes, registering your main residence saves you a lot of stress when dealing with the authorities. Filling out forms, registering your car or applying for a new ID card - you can now do all of this directly on site without having to make an extra trip home. What's more, important letters are sent directly to you and not to your parents' letterbox, where they have to wait for you or be forwarded.
