Medical Examination by a Public Health Officer for Students

Eligibility to Take Exams

If your examination regulations and/or a specific statutory provision (such as those for medical and law students) require you to submit a medical certificate from a public health officer in the event of an absence from an exam due to illness, or if you are directly requested to do so by your responsible examination office, please use our public office hours for this purpose. The requirements for a medical examination by a public health officer in this regard are:

• You are a resident of Jena.
• You can present a current certificate of incapacity for work (AU) from your primary care physician or specialist to the Health Services Office.
• You must report to the Health Services Department on the day of your exam or no later than one day afterward.

Special Issues

In individual cases, the Health Services Department conducts assessments regarding special issues for students, such as granting an extension of writing time, accommodations for disabilities, or a semester of leave, provided this is medically indicated. Please check with your designated examination office well in advance to determine whether a medical certificate from a public health officer is required and, if so, what deadlines must be met. Assessments regarding special issues are conducted by appointment only. The requirements for such assessments are:

• You are a resident of Jena.
• You can prove that you are or were suffering from a long-term illness by providing a current (long-term) certificate of incapacity for work (AU) from your primary care physician or specialist, or by submitting medical reports from a primary care physician, specialist, or psychologist, or hospital reports.

Fees are charged in accordance with the Thuringian Administrative Costs Act (ThürVwKostG) in conjunction with the respective administrative cost regulations.

Please note that payments at the Health Services Department can only be made by debit or credit card.

• For law students: Section 7(4), sentence 4 of the Thuringian Regulations on Legal Education and Examinations
• For pharmacy students: Section 13(1) of the Licensing Regulations for Pharmacists
• For all others: in accordance with the respective faculty-specific examination regulations
