Deregister vehicle
Deregistering vehicles such as a car: online or in person on site
You can apply to deregister a vehicle, e.g. a car deregistration, in person at any registration authority in Germany.
For vehicles registered in Jena, you can also apply to deregister your vehicle via our online service.
Documents
- Registration certificate part I or vehicle registration document
- Registration certificate part II or vehicle registration document (if the applicant and vehicle owner are identical, the ZB I is sufficient)
- License plates - After de-stamping, the license plates will be returned or can be disposed of here.
- If the vehicle is not being scrapped: Declaration by the vehicle owner that the vehicle is not to be disposed of as waste. Please note in the case of powers of attorney - use our sample deregistration power of attorney.
- If the vehicle is scrapped: Proof of utilization or declaration of whereabouts in accordance with the End-of-Life Vehicle Ordinance
- If applicable, power of attorney and identity document (copy) of the vehicle owner
Note: In the case of financed vehicles, the registration certificate part II does not have to be requested from the bank for the purpose of decommissioning! A written declaration of consent to decommissioning is sufficient.

Document issue - without an appointment
Documents that have already been applied for and are now ready for collection (passport, ID card and eID card as well as documents from the driving license authority) can be collected from reception during opening hours without an appointment.
Other requests with an appointment
An appointment must be booked for personal visits for other matters. This can be done online or by telephone.

Please note
On 23.12.2025 the area is only open until 16:00. The area is closed on 02.01.2026. The department cannot be reached by telephone from 4 p.m. on 23.12.2025 and all day on 02.01.2026.

The registration authority uses special adhesive seals with special security features for the vehicle documents. This increases the total fees by € 0.30 per adhesive seal used.
