Replace driver's license

Prerequisite

You have your main residence in Jena.

Application

It is not possible to apply by proxy, as the card driver's license contains your signature, which must be provided at the time of application. You do not have to fill out an application form. It will be created by us and simply signed by you.

• If a driving license has been lost or destroyed, the previous holder must report the loss immediately and have a replacement document issued, unless he or she renounces the driving license.
• You will always receive a new driver's license as a replacement. This is produced centrally by the Federal Printing Office in Berlin.
• As the processing time is approx. 4 weeks, a "provisional driving license" will be issued until your replacement driving license is issued.

• Passport or identity card
• Photograph: Please bring a printed photograph that is no more than three months old and complies with biometric regulations. The photo must be 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size. You can find out what the photo must look like on the Bundesdruckerei website (see links)
• Transcript of the index card: If the lost driver's license or the first copy was not issued by the city administration of Jena, a file card copy from the foreign driver's license authority that issued the driver's license is required. Please request the file card copy yourself from the relevant driving license authority and have it sent directly to us or sent by fax.
• Proof of driving licenses issued in the former GDR from 1968 to 1982 (index card "VK 30")
• If you lose your driver's license, you must make an affidavit about the loss and the circumstances of the loss. You can submit the affidavit to us or to a notary.
