Assistance for In-Home Care

Outpatient care assistance services are provided to enable people in need of care to live as independently and self-determined a life as possible—in a manner consistent with human dignity—in their own home environment, despite their need for assistance.

Avoiding Full-Time Institutional Care

To prevent the need for full-time inpatient care, appropriate measures—such as in-kind care benefits, care allowances, care aids, and day, night, and short-term care—are provided. Subsidies may also be granted, and the expenses of caregivers may be reimbursed.

Assistance for Inpatient Care

Assistance for residential care includes general care services (nursing care, social support, medical treatment) as well as room and board in a nursing home.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible recipients are individuals with significant and inpatient care needs who, although they receive benefits from long-term care insurance, are unable to cover the resulting nursing home costs due to the legally capped benefit amounts under long-term care insurance. Persons without long-term care insurance who have a significant need for inpatient care are also eligible.

• Residential Care Facility Contract
• Cost estimate from the care service (only when applying for in-kind care benefits)
• Documents regarding voluntary health and long-term care insurance (health insurance chip card), private insurance, or mandatory insurance
• Identification card
• Rental agreement / sublease agreement (only when applying for in-kind long-term care benefits)
• Current housing allowance notice
• Decision regarding receipt of basic income support for the elderly and those with reduced earning capacity
• Pension decision(s)
• Disability ID card, including the approval notice
• Decision regarding a war victims’ pension
• Long-term care insurance classification
• Consent form for requesting the MDK assessment
• Guardian ID card or power of attorney for healthcare
• Bank statements for the last 3 months from the checking account (complete)
• Documents regarding financial circumstances (savings account book, current statement of the home savings contract and the date of the earliest possible payout, securities and similar assets, funeral insurance)
• Insurance documents (life insurance with cash value, home contents insurance, liability insurance)
