Search for lost property online
You can search for lost and found quickly and easily in the online lost and found office. Specific inquiries can be made at the lost and found office on site or by telephone. Lost property from the Jena public transport system is kept as a list.
Lost property from local public transport
Lost property from Jena's local public transport system is handed over to the lost and found office almost every day (Monday to Friday). This process takes some time.
Therefore, please always contact the lost and found office by telephone or e-mail first to arrange collection of your lost property.
Details
Lost property
If you have found something in a public space in Jena but do not know who it belongs to and therefore cannot hand it over to the person affected by the loss, you must report this to the lost and found office of Jena City Council. You do not have to do this if the item is worth less than 10 euros.
Storage
Found items are kept for 6 months. If no one collects them, they become the property of the City of Jena or the person who found them (must be declared when the lost property is handed in). Items that become the property of the City of Jena after the storage period will either be destroyed or used for social purposes. Food and drink will be thrown away immediately.
Lost property
It is advisable to be patient, as it can take up to four weeks for lost and found to be handed in to the lost and found office.
If the found item contains information about the person affected by the loss, the person will be notified. If this person does not live in Jena, the lost property will be forwarded to the relevant lost and found office within Germany.
Collection
When collecting your lost property, you must pay an administration fee and show a valid ID document. Please bring proof such as proof of purchase, photos or similar to prove that it belongs to you.
If someone else is to collect your lost property, this person needs an informal power of attorney (including a copy of an ID document for signature comparison) and a valid ID document. Minors require written permission from a parent or legal guardian (including a copy of an ID document for signature comparison) to collect lost property.
Insurance certificate
If you require a certificate for your insurance company that your lost property is not in the lost and found office, this can be issued against payment of an administration fee. To obtain this certificate, you must provide proof of identity and proof of ownership of the lost item. The insurance certificate can be issued at the earliest 3 weeks after the loss or theft.
