Obligation to register Ukrainian vehicles from 01.10.2024
The transitional regulation for Ukrainian vehicles expires on 30.09.2024. From 01.10.2024, vehicles with a Ukrainian registration that have been in Germany for more than one year must be registered. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) has agreed with the federal states on a registration procedure that takes into account the special situation of Ukrainian refugees. Documents for admission
- an identity document with the name in Latin letters
- the Ukrainian registration certificate (paper or card, not digital) and the license plates
- an individual approval for the vehicle in accordance with § 21 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) or (if available) the EU Certificate of Conformity (CoC) with an additional general inspection in accordance with § 29 StVZO (the preparation of an expert opinion for the individual approval in accordance with § 21 StVZO and the performance of a general inspection in accordance with § 29 StVZO is carried out by a technical service (e.g. DEKRA, TÜV, GTÜ, KÜS or FSP)
- Electronic insurance confirmation (eVB - no green insurance card, no frontier insurance, because these are only valid for international traffic), available from insurance companies
- SEPA direct debit mandate (see downloads)
- Proof of customs clearance - proof of customs clearance is: customs document confirming payment of import duties or customs clearance certificate
- If applicable, an exemption permit according to § 70 StVZO, if this is required according to the expert opinion according to § 21 StVZO - the exemption permit must be applied for at the Thuringian State Administration Office before the vehicle is registered (see links)
Appointment required
You must register your vehicle at the Bürgerservice in Jena (if you are registered with your main residence in Jena). Registration can only be done in person and not online. An appointment must be booked for a personal visit. This can be done online or by telephone.
