Re-registration of a Vehicle After It Has Been Taken Out of Service
After a car registered in your name has been taken out of service, the vehicle’s registration remainsvalid. Therefore, you can re-register your vehicle at any time using the existing registration documents.
A new general inspection (e.g., TÜV) is only necessary if the most recent inspection deadline expired during the period of decommissioning.
Details
Re-registration of a Motor Vehicle After 7 Years
Your vehicle’s data is stored in the Central Vehicle Registry for 7 years after it has been taken off the road . If this period has already expired at the time of the requested re-registration , the vehicle’s operating permit will have lapsed. To re-register the vehicle after 7 years, a general inspection is required. You must also present the vehicle title or registration certificate.
Ifyou are unable to presentthe aforementioned documents, the vehicle must undergo an individual operating permit procedure. In this case, the steps outlined in the registration procedure for homemade vehicles or used vehicles that have not yet been registered apply.
