Registration of new vehicles - Registration

You have the option of registering a new vehicle permanently (until deregistration) or as a day registration.

Daily registration

As a rule, vehicles are registered permanently until the vehicle is deregistered. You now also have the option of applying for the initial registration of a vehicle for the duration of one day only. This regulation only applies to new vehicles. This new option for the initial registration of a new vehicle is mainly used by car manufacturers and car dealers.

A one-day registration does not require the license plates to be stamped. At the end of the day of initial registration, the vehicle is deemed to have been taken out of service without the need for a separate deregistration application. A vehicle with a daily registration may be put into operation on public roads with the prescribed license plates without stamp plates or stickers for the duration of the registration. When the vehicle is put into operation on public roads, the person driving the vehicle must display the provisional registration certificate in the vehicle so that it is clearly legible from the outside until the end of the day of initial registration.

• If applicable, proof of EC type approval in the original (EC certificate of conformity / COC certificate)
• Manufacturer's data confirmation, if applicable: In certain cases, a data confirmation has been completed by the manufacturer instead of the registration confirmation part II. On the basis of this data confirmation, the registration certificate II is then issued by the registration authority. In this case, the vehicle must be presented for initial identification, unless the vehicle has already been identified by an officially recognized expert as part of a supplementary or bodywork inspection (see also information on the obligation to present vehicles from abroad).
• Electronic insurance confirmation (eVB, formerly insurance duplicate card)
• SEPA direct debit mandate for the collection of vehicle tax
• Notification of special vehicle use, if applicable (see Downloads)
• General documents on the vehicle owner (see Downloads)
• if applicable, declaration on the use of the business address in the context of the registration of vehicles for sole proprietorships and self-employed persons (see Downloads)

The registration authority uses special adhesive seals with special security features for the vehicle documents. This increases the total fees by € 0.30 per adhesive seal used.
