Residence - Asylum procedure
Politically persecuted persons enjoy asylum (Article 16a of the Basic Law).
Anyone wishing to claim this right must undergo an asylum procedure (recognition procedure). The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees carries out the asylum procedure. The Immigration Office in Jena carries out the residence decisions. The authority is bound by the decision of the Federal Office throughout the entire procedure.
The application is submitted in Suhl or Hermsdorf in Thuringia.
Information on voluntary return and reintegration can be found at the information portal on voluntary return and reintegration.
Details
Application for asylum
Asylum seekers seeking protection from persecution must register in person in Thuringia at the following address:
Suhl initial reception center
Weidbergstraße 24-26
98527 Suhl
or
Hermsdorf branch office
Am Rasthof 2
07629 Hermsdorf
Residence restriction
You have been assigned Jena as your place of residence by the State Reception Center. Therefore, your place of residence is restricted to Jena during the asylum procedure.
Residence restriction
During the first three months, residence is restricted to the Free State of Thuringia. After that, asylum seekers may stay anywhere in Germany.
Employment
Asylum seekers have so-called subordinate access to the labor market three months after applying for asylum. This is made clear by the entry: "Employment only with the permission of the immigration authority. Self-employment not permitted."
This means that if there is a concrete job offer (employment contract), the documents must be submitted to the immigration authority. To do this, the employer must complete the "Declaration of employment" and then submit it (see downloads). The Foreigners' Registration Office will ask the Federal Employment Agency whether approval for employment will be granted.
Residence permit
After you have been interviewed by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, you will receive a residence permit. This document contains information on residence, stay and employment.
Procedure/ deadlines
The Immigration Office of the City of Jena has changed its processing procedures. In order to shorten waiting times for appointments and residence permits, all applications will in future be checked without a personal appointment. It is therefore no longer necessary to book a personal appointment.
Please send us the relevant application forms and all necessary documents either by post or electronically by e-mail to: antrag-abh@jena.de. Please do not send us any original documents.
We will contact you directly if we have any queries. Therefore, please make sure that you can be contacted by post or, if necessary, by e-mail or telephone if you have any queries.
If a personal appointment is necessary after final examination of your application, you will receive an appointment from us at short notice.
Documents
For approval of employment, please submit the "Declaration of employment relationship" completed and signed by the employer (see Downloads).
