Apply for Jenabonus

Each family member receives a personal Jenabonus. Passes are issued to individuals ages 6 and older. For individuals over 16, the Jenabonus is valid only when presented with a valid federal ID card or passport.

Students and young people under the age of 18 can receive a mobility pass for free use of public transportation in Jena upon presentation of a valid Jenabonus and payment of an administrative fee ( see links).

Eligibility Requirements

The applicant must belong to one of the following groups:

• Recipients of benefits under SGB XII (subsistence assistance, basic income support, long-term care assistance)
• Recipients of benefits under SGB II, as well as non-working members of the household or community of need who do not themselves receive benefits under SGB II
• Beneficiaries under SGB XIV (social compensation)
• Recipients of a child supplement under Section 6a of the Federal Child Allowance Act, as well as children living in the household
• Old-age pensioners entitled to housing assistance
• Recipients of disability pensions who are entitled to housing assistance
• Recipients of benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
• Students receiving BAföG
• Apprentices receiving vocational training assistance

Validity

The Jenabonus is valid for one year from the date of issuance. If eligibility requirements are no longer met, the Jenabonus card must be returned to the Citizen Services Office.

Application Process

Apply for Jenabonus Online

You can conveniently apply for a newJenabonus card or renewyour existing one online. The Jenabonus card will be mailed to you free of charge.

In-Person Visit by Prior Appointment

You can apply in person or through an authorized representative at the Citizen Service Center by making an appointment in advance (see opening hours). When visiting the Citizen Service Center, you must present the currently valid supporting documents (see required documents). Once eligibility has been verified, a Jenabonus card will be issued immediately.

• Identity card, passport, or passport combined with an electronic residence permit (eAT)
• Notice of benefits under SGB XII
• Notice of benefits under SGB II
• Notice of benefits under SGB XIV
• Notice of entitlement to housing allowance for the applicant, in conjunction with the notice of entitlement to basic income support benefits under SGB II for the person with whom the applicant lives in a shared household
• Decision regarding receipt of a child supplement under Section 6a of the Federal Child Allowance Act
• Benefit determination for a senior citizen or EU pensioner entitled to housing allowance
• Benefit determination under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
• Benefit decision under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG)
• Benefit determination under SGB III (vocational training allowance)

There is no fee to obtain the Jenabonus Card.
