Register your dog - Dog tag
The dog owner must register every dog over 3 months of age with the municipal tax team in person or in writing within 2 weeks of reaching this age limit, taking it into the household or moving into the city of Jena. The keeping of dogs is subject to tax.
Details
Upon registration, a dog tag is issued which must be visibly attached to the dog's collar and presented to the City of Jena's control officers on request.
- If the tag is lost, you will receive a replacement tag.
- Please inform us immediately of any changes of name or address in person, in writing or by telephone.
Documents
The following documents must be submitted for registration:
- Date of acquisition or arrival in Jena
- Litter date or age; breed, sex and color as well as name of the dog (proof e.g. by presenting the vaccination card or other documents)
- Origin of the animal (details of previous owner, animal transfer contract if applicable)

Fees/taxes
The keeping of dogs for the purpose of private living in the territory of the city of Jena is taxed. Dangerous dogs are subject to special taxation. The exact regulations can be found in the statutes on the levying of dog tax in the city of Jena.

The dog tax is payable in quarterly installments on 15.02., 15.05., 15.08. and 15.11. of each year. The annual payment method can also be selected.
