Residence permit - Research

The residence permit for the purpose of research is issued if an effective hosting agreement or a corresponding contract for the implementation of a research project is concluded with a research institution in Germany. The residence permit is generally issued for the duration of the research project. The residence permit permits employment as a researcher and self-employment in teaching.

After completion of the research activity, the residence permit can be extended for 18 months for the purpose of seeking employment.

All incoming applications will be reviewed without a personal visit.

• Proof of residence (tenancy agreement, in the case of a sub-tenancy agreement also a declaration of consent from the owner, in the case of use of own living space [property] extract from the land register)
• Proof of health insurance
• Completed and signed hosting agreement or a corresponding contract for the implementation of a research project
• corresponding proof of livelihood: employment contract, declaration of employment, scholarship, etc.
• payslips (if already available)
• Signed instruction sheet
• Declaration of consent to the storage and use of your e-mail address and telephone number, if applicable
