Enrollment

All school beginners with main residence in Jena receive the required school registration form by mail to their home approximately four weeks before school registration in May (of the previous year of enrollment).

In Jena there is freedom of choice of school. Therefore, please register your child in the respective registration period at a primary or community school of your choice. Please note that possible claims for school transport services result from the evaluation of the school route to the nearest receptive school.

To register, please send the school registration form (original), the completed form "Anmeldung zum Besuch einer Staatlichen Grund- oder Gemeinschaftsschule" (Registration to attend a state primary or community school) and the birth certificate to the school. Please also submit a copy of any special educational needs certificate.

Registration by e-mail is not possible.

The school management decides on the admission to a school.

Transition class 4/5

All fourth graders in Jena receive a school registration form by mail approximately four weeks before the school registration week at the secondary schools (in March of the respective transition year).

In Jena there is freedom of choice of school. Therefore, please register your child in the school registration week at a comprehensive school, community school or at a grammar school (taking into account the performance requirement) of your choice. Please note that possible entitlements for pupil transport services result from the assessment of the school route to the nearest receptive school.

When registering, please bring your half-year report card or recommendation for the Gymnasium course of education. Please also submit a copy of any special education certificate.

Host school relationship

1. primary schools and special needs centres

Pupils from the surrounding area need the form "Gastschulantrag ABS" for the registration at a Jena primary school / a Jena Förderzentrum. This is available in the Jena schools, in the Jena school administration or on this page under downloads.



Interested parties for the new 1st grade at a primary school please submit the "Guest School Application ABS" in the registration period at the respective school.



The school administration decides on the admission of pupils from the surrounding area to a Jena school after all Jena pupils have been successfully accommodated.



Please note that despite a guest school application, registration must be made at the relevant school.

2. community schools, comprehensive schools & grammar schools

Pupils from the surrounding area need the form "expression of interest" for the registration at a Jena community school / comprehensive school / Jena grammar school. This is available in the Jena schools, in the Jena school administration or on this page under downloads.

If your child already attends the 4th grade of a Jena comprehensive school and if it is desired to remain at this school in the secondary sector, the child is considered to be bindingly accepted with the handing in of the school application form in the school secretary's office. New applicants for admission to class 5 please use the form "Expression of interest" for the application.

The school management decides on the admission of pupils from the surrounding area to a Jena school after all Jena pupils have been successfully accommodated.

Please note that despite the expression of interest, an application must be made to the responsible school.

3. vocational schools

Pupils who would like to register at a vocational school with a guest school application, please use the form "Gastschulantrag BBS. This is available in the Jena schools, in the Jena school administration or on this page under downloads.

Immigrants

For newcomers to Jena the school registration is regulated as follows: The school registration has to take place according to the desired type of school at the state school closest to your home. You can find an overview of the schools here. Please bring the registration certificate for your main residence in the city of Jena and, if available, your last school report. Please note the current pandemic regulations.
