Register a Dog - Dog Tag

Upon registration, you will receive a dog tag, which must be attached visibly to the dog’s collar and presented to Jena city officials upon request.

• If the tag is lost, you will receive a replacement tag.
• Please notify us immediately of any changes to your name or address in person, in writing, or by phone.

The following supporting documents must be submitted upon registration:

• Date of purchase or arrival in Jena
• Date of birth or age; breed, sex, and color, as well as the dog’s name (proof, e.g., by presenting the vaccination record or other documents)
• Origin of the animal (information about the previous owner, possibly a transfer of ownership agreement)

A tax is levied on the keeping of dogs for private purposes within the city limits of Jena. Dangerous dogs are subject to a special tax. The exact regulations can be found in the ordinance governing the collection of the dog tax in the city of Jena.

The dog license fee is payable in quarterly installments on February 15, May 15, August 15, and November 15 of each year. You may also choose to pay annually.
