Residence permit - EU Blue Card

The EU Blue Card residence permit is limited in time. It is valid for one to four years. If the employment relationship is to last for less than four years, the EU Blue Card is issued for the duration of the employment contract plus three months. The format within the European Union is standardized and corresponds to Regulation (EC) 1030/2002.

The same regulations apply to the extension of the residence permit as to its issue. The same documents are required as for the initial application.

The requirements include

• German university degree, recognized foreign university degree or a foreign university degree comparable to a German university degree
• a job corresponding to the qualification with a minimum annual income for 2023 of € 58,400 (€ 45,552 for certain shortage occupations)

The Immigration Office of the City of Jena has changed its processing procedures. In order to shorten waiting times for appointments and residence permits, all applications will in future be checked without a personal appointment. It is therefore no longer necessary to book a personal appointment.

If a personal appointment is necessary after final examination of your application, you will receive an appointment from us at short notice.

• Proof of residence (e.g. rental agreement, in the case of a subletting agreement also a declaration of consent from the owner)
• Proof of health insurance
• University degree
• In the case of foreign qualifications, proof of recognition in Germany
• Concrete job offer (declaration of employment completed by the employer)
• Wage or salary statement (if already available)
• Signed instruction sheet
• If applicable, declaration of consent to the storage and use of your e-mail address and telephone number
