Residence permit - training and studies

Foreign nationals may be granted a renewable residence permit for the purpose of applying to study, preparing for studies (e.g. language course) and studying at a state or state-recognized university or comparable educational institution. Studying must be the main purpose of the stay; distance learning is not sufficient.

A residence permit may be issued in individual cases for the purpose of attending language courses that do not prepare for studies or for attending school. If the Federal Employment Agency agrees, a residence permit can also be issued for the purpose of company training and further education.

All incoming applications will be reviewed without a personal visit.

If a personal appointment is necessary after final examination of your application, you will receive an appointment from us at short notice.

• Proof of residence (tenancy agreement, in the case of a sub-tenancy agreement also a declaration of consent from the owner, in the case of use of own living space [property] extract from the land register)
• Proof of health insurance
• Training contract and the "Declaration of employment" completed by the employer in the case of training or study forecast/certificate in the case of studies
• Proof of language level at least B1 (in the case of qualified vocational training)
• Proof of how the training/study is financed (e.g. employment contract with payslips, declaration of commitment, proof of scholarship, blocked account, bank statements for the last two months, ...)
• Declaration on study financing (for studies or study preparation)
• Declaration on the financing of training (for training)
• Signed instruction sheet
• If applicable, declaration of consent to the storage and use of your e-mail address and telephone number
