1. debt counseling and 2. consumer insolvency counseling
We offer comprehensive advice and assistance on your existing financial and personal situation. We work with you to develop a concept for overcoming your debt situation. We do not take over your debts, but rather show you prospects for debt regulation. We treat all your information confidentially and in compliance with the law. As a recognized advice centre, we will support you in the event of consumer insolvency proceedings during the out-of-court settlement attempt and during the initiation and implementation of the judicial insolvency proceedings.
What we expect from you
- active and trusting cooperation
- that you do not enter into any new debt obligations (loan, purchase order, debt restructuring)
- that you do not make any new payment promises / installment payments to your creditors (this does not apply to current rent arrears, electricity debts or impending imprisonment)
- refer the creditor to your appointment or your visit to the debt counseling service
- that you do not sign any forms during home visits (self-disclosure, assignment)
- that you fully disclose your financial circumstances
- that you keep agreements and appointments made with us

Open consultation hours
Open consultation hours take place every Thursday from 08:00 to 12:00. During this brief consultation, you should provide information about
- which of your debts is most pressing and why
- the amount of over-indebtedness
- the number of creditors
- The amount and type of your income
3. rent and energy debts and 4. benefits for prison inmates
We advise and support you with rent and energy debts. Under certain conditions, we offer you financial assistance in the form of taking over your rent and energy debts and assistance with living expenses in accordance with the third chapter of SGB XII. Inmates in prison have the option of having their rental costs covered in order to maintain their accommodation during their imprisonment. Inmates on remand can apply for pocket money. In addition, assistance with living expenses can also be granted in accordance with the third chapter of SGB XII.
If you have rent or energy debts, apply to have them covered!

Debtor counseling/consumer insolvency counseling
Please only bring original documents to the initial consultation with the advice center.
Knowing and organizing your exact income and expenditure situation is a very important part of debt counselling. Please take a look at the documents.

- Monthly budget for property (if you use a property)

- History of your debts

From 01.07.2014, only the official forms for consumer insolvency proceedings and residual debt discharge proceedings may be used to apply for consumer insolvency.
The P-account has existed since 01.07.2010. On application, you can have the garnishment allowance increased if you have maintenance obligations which you also fulfill. The relevant receipts must be submitted for 3 months.
If you receive benefits from jenarbeit, this certificate will be issued there directly.
Rent and energy debts / prison sentence
You can download and print out the application for benefits under SGB XII under "Downloads". Please attach the completed application (if available and applicable):
- Identity card/passport
- Statutory health insurance chip card or documents relating to voluntary health insurance
- Disability card
- Guardian's certificate/power of attorney
- Proof of the amount of rent:
- Tenancy agreement and last declaration of rent changes
- For right of residence and right of occupancy: transfer agreement
- Proof of service charges
- Notice of termination, eviction notice/judgment
- Proof of all income, e.g:
- current 3 payslips + employment contract
- Current pension adjustment notification
- Notifications of company, supplementary and foundation pensions
- Notifications of pension payments
- Proof of life annuities etc.
- Housing benefit, child benefit, child benefit supplement, parental benefit
- BAföG, alimony, etc.
- Proof of all assets, e.g:
- Statements of all existing accounts for the last 3 months (without gaps)
- Savings books, fixed-term deposit or money market accounts
- Securities, mortgage bonds, bonds
- for house and land assets: current extract from the land register
- in the case of residential property, rights of usufruct or usufructuary rights: Transfer agreement
- Accident, life and death benefit insurance policies with proof of the current surrender value
- Current rejection notices from jenarbeit
- Certificate of imprisonment
- Declaration of consent to data protection for jenarbeit, landlord, housing benefit

Notes
As we do not know how many people will come to the open consultation hours, it is advisable to arrive by 11:30 a.m. at the latest. Apart from the open consultation hours, our advisors also work with appointments.
